Information about the allocation of resources

It is a great honor and pleasure for us to welcome His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in Austria. In order to perform an event of this magnitude, numerous organizational preparations have to be made and financial means need to be secured.

As opposed to Asian countries where the costs for such events are covered for instance by wealthy individuals and, as a result, participation is free of charge for all, in the West financial resources need to be covered otherwise – e.g. through ticket selling. Compared to Central European standards our ticket prices are very moderate, especially considering the high costs for renting the event halls, sound and light, etc. Moreover, we did our best to offer different price categories so that everyone can participate at the event. Tickets are already available for € 15 (e.g. for the lectures in Klagenfurt and the Stadthalle in Vienna).

In terms of finances, our primary aim is to cover all expenses related to the events with His Holiness. In case of a surplus of funds at the end of the events, His Holiness will decide how the money will be used. He has always been using the surplus amount for the benefit of others. The remaining financial resources are used as follows:

  • 30% Local Causes involved with social, educational, religious, etc.
  • 30% National & International Humanitarian & Emergency Causes
  • 40% The Dalai Lama Trust

The Dalai Lama Trust was founded in 2009 by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to support the activities of individuals or institutions working for the welfare of the Tibetan people and the advancement of the Tibetan culture. Moreover, the Dalai Lama Trust helps to evolve strategies that will encourage a sense of universal responsibility in the young through the educational system and foster meaningful dialogue between science and religion. The Trust is a U.S. nonprofit charitable organization registered in the State of New York. For more information about the Dalai Lama Trust please visit:
